Your career is one of the things that you may have loved and nurtured over the last few years. Not everyone is in the privileged position of being in a job that they enjoy doing, or at least feel passionate about. Doing those things well and to the best of your ability is going to be the best way to stand out. It gives your employer no doubt in their mind that you are a capable asset to their business, and potentially are ready and willing for more responsibility or a new direction to take with your job role.

It may sound counter productive, but actually being the one who makes suggestions and raises issues within the workforce right now could work in your favour. There will always be people above you looking to make improvements where possible, and this could be anything from implementing things such as contract management software to help people and their job roles, to things like flexible working. Even team motivation days or bonding within the workforce implements positive atmospheres, which is what an employer wants.
Don’t be afraid to speak up if you have something to say
While you may be happy to express suggestions for improvements, you may feel less likely to speak up with an opinion or if you don’t agree with something. But this could go against you. An employer wants to promote within with people who care about the business, who are passionate about it and want to make a change. So speaking up can actually be a good thing. As long as it is done professionally and that you have thought about what is you are wanting to express or change.
Show initiative and think outside of the box
Finally, you may want to think outside of the box when it comes to showering initiative in the workplace. It might sound strange, but doing this can help improve your role in the business, can help you to be seen and also help to show the potential you have. This could be taking in additional responsibility, doing something that benefits the business without being asked, or generally thinking outside of the box when it comes to pushing new ideas forward.
